Info about your friendly neighborhood webmaster and
tennis enthusiast:
I was named USTA Tennessee Volunteer of the Month for June/July 2008.
Below is the article (which was on the TN community section of the USTA
website):
Volunteer of the Month: Rod O'Connor
Rod O’Connor, Webmaster and e-mail coordinator for the Wilson County
Community Tennis Association, has been involved with the sport of tennis
for 20 years.
Currently, O’Connor organizes a social tennis doubles league in Mt.
Juliet, Tenn., a suburban community just outside of Nashville that lacks
organized play opportunities. Each week, dozens of players participate
in the league and are appreciative of the opportunity to meet other
tennis players and patrons within their community. Hopefully the players
will eventually be able to form league teams from these weekly socials.
O’Connor has also organized a recreational level neighborhood tennis
singles tournament in Chicago known as The South Loop Tournament.
He has also been teaching tennis to his 5-year-old niece, Ady Rose, for
the past two years. O’Connor has won 15 tennis trophies on the
recreational level in the central Illinois/Chicago area, and he recently
took up league tennis again after an extended absence.
